Australia's Best Bars and Nightclubs - Gotham Bar, Sydney - Review
2011-07-14 11:23:50If Oxford Street lives up to any expectations, it's the expectation of catering towards a niche. In an area where arts clubs, gay bars, and cabarets come out to play at night, it sure is a breath of fresh air to find a location that makes everyone feel comfortable and welcome no matter what time of day.Â
Gotham does exactly this: it makes any visitor feel comfortable while at the same time transporting them into a New York-esque design based on Batman's "Gotham City". True to form, this spot is split into two levels to create that sense of height and atmosphere synonymous with New York City, but manages to exude urban chic to the maximum at the same time.Â
The story behind Gotham is like the story behind New York. Anyone can go there and try something new, and while you're there you will find people from all walks of life.

If you are looking for style, sophistication and party with the elite of Sydney's business district on a Friday night, then without question you will want to check out Crystal bar @ the old general post office (or GPO as it is now known). Cruise Bar, Sydney, Australia - Review
If you are looking for style, sophistication and party with the elite of Sydney's business district on a Friday night, then without question you will want to check out Crystal bar @ the old general post office (or GPO as it is now known). An Overview Of Sydney's Bars and Nightclubs
Sydney's world famous bar and nightclub scene will leave you breathless... The diverse range of cocktail bars, lounges and sports bars perfectly complements the intense nightclubbing scene that has given birth to some of the best venues in the world. There's no age barriers: every time you go there you will find a different crowd and a different energy, which provides for a great night out. The downstairs area holds the bar and seats let you peer into Oxford Street, while the upstairs gives carpeted luxury to sit back and relax to, or maybe even dance. I must say that the one thing I really loved about the decor though was the huge image of an old-school clock behind the bar. Strange thing to love, I know, but this is the first thing that will strike anyone that goes in and it gives Gotham that "period elegance" while still allowing it to be effortlessly modern.Â
Food and drink also gives any visitor to Gotham a new experience. All of the food menu is share plates, making it the perfect thing to get when you have a group of friends: easy to eat, but at the same time items like the Peking Duck Pancakes or WA Scallops gives the menu a kind of diversity that is welcomed after menu after menu of chips, wedges, and steaks. As for drinks...well, I think this is where Gotham really shines. The cocktails are standard price, but what goes inside them makes it sound a little bit like a dessert at a fine dining restaurant. Each cocktail is made to give you a new experience and surprise you, and drinks like the Hobo Cup (pomegranate, citrus, Russian standard vodka garnished with a lollipop) have that special touch to make them stand out from the rest.Â
As for the music...Gotham's music downstairs is atmospheric: drinking, having a bite and talking with friends. The upper level promises an intimate area for people to have an enjoyable and cosy time. Gotham bar is also open midday to midnight every day, making it the perfect place to drop by for an afternoon cocktail catch up or a place for drinks after the sun goes down.Â
Gotham is for those who are bored of the same old and want to invigorate their nights with something new. If you're not afraid to experience the new and love it, then Gotham is the only bar for you.
